SWANA FUN-IN-THE-SNOW-ATHON
OPTIONS
Choose one of two opportunities to experience the beauty
and heritage of the Canadian Rockies. Register
A. Explore Lake Louise
Join Peter
Duck, an award-winning interpreter of Human and Natural
History and a member of our Symposium Coordination Committee,
for an informative introduction to the landscape of Banff
National Park as we head up the Bow Valley Parkway to Lake
Louise for an afternoon of fun and fantastic mountain scenery.
Watch the awesome landscape pass by as you hear about the
formation of these spectacular mountain ranges along with
stories of the wolves and wildfires that combine with tales
of human adventure to make the Canadian Rockies a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. After one or two stops for pictures along the
way, you can spend the afternoon in the Switzer-land of North
America with the historic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise as
your luxurious base camp.
Pick your own activity at the Lake, from snowshoeing to snowman-building
to a quiet stroll in the winter wonderland along the lakeshore…
or simply chat with symposium colleagues over snacks in our
Chateau hospitality room. Depending on how the season advances,
the Chateau Lake Louise offers onsite equipment rentals for
snowshoeing, skating and cross-country skiing, as well as
the opportunity to book guided activities with certified interpretive
experts.
B. Wilderness Dogsledding and (optional) Snowshoe
Adventure
Register for a mountain dogsled adventure that also includes
a bonus snowshoeing option! Our transportation will pick you
up at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. You will travel up
and through Whiteman’s Pass and into the spectacular
backcountry of the Canadian Rockies. Your guides will set
you up with a special opportunity to travel back in history
and move over the snow the way natives, explorers and trappers
travelled during the long northern winters.
Opportunities will be provided to pause en route to view
the Bow Valley with its historic mountain communities of Canmore
and Exshaw nestled along the braided channels of the Bow River
as it flows out to the foothills and beyond. A bonus barbeque
and bonfire will warm you up during this event!
