Q: What are the requirements to become certified as a landfill
operator?
A: An applicant for a basic certificate must:
a) be at least 18 years of age,
and
b) have at least 1 year of full
time operational experience at a landfill or composting
facility
The full-time experience requirement must be current to be within
the last 3 years from the date of application.
Q: How long will it take to receive exam results?
A: Exam results will generally be mailed to you within 6 weeks of
writing the exam
Q: What are the requirements for certificate renewal?
A: The operator must show relevant full-time experience in landfill
or composting facility operations for at least 1 year out of the
3 years of the renewal period.

Q: Why do I need to submit my application several weeks
prior to the exam date?
A: Upon receiving your application it will be forwarded to our Certification
Review committee, this committee will review your application to
ensure you meet all the necessary requirements as well, our office
requires this time to send you a letter informing you of the committee’s
decision.
Q: When will I be notified whether I am approved to write
the examination?
A: a letter will be sent to the address on your application at least
10 days prior to the examination date.
Q: When and where will the next exam sitting take place?
A: All dates and information on registering will be posted on our
website as they become available.
Q: How do I pay?
A: Payment can be made online via our online registration system
or by mailing us your cheque. Please mail payments to PO Box 3317,
Sherwood Park, AB – T8H 2T2. All payments must be
received prior to you writing the exam.
Q: The sitting I wanted to attend has already been closed
for registering; can I still submit my application even though it’s
too late?
A: No, we are sorry but after the cut-off date we are unable to
accept any more applications. You can review our website for more
information on the next available dates.
